Barbara J. Mayfield is Founder and President of Nutrition Communicator, LLC and leads nutrition professionals to create compelling messages that are evidence-based, meaningful, memorable, and motivating. She is editor for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Communicating Nutrition: The Authoritative Guide, published in August 2020. She honed her expertise on the faculty of the Nutrition Science Department at Purdue teaching future nutrition professionals to be effective nutrition communicators. Barb has also worked as an early interventionist and served the WIC Program as a nutrition educator, high-risk counselor, breastfeeding coordinator and local program coordinator. Barb led Noteworthy Creations, Inc., a company dedicated to high quality nutrition education resources for 17 years. She has published curricula for preschoolers, early elementary, high school, college, and professional audiences.

Barb received a B.S. in Dietetics from Purdue and an M.S. in Human Nutrition from Cornell. She received multiple teaching awards at Purdue, was named Outstanding Dietetics Educator by the Indiana Academy and the Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors. In 2018 she was inducted into the Purdue Nutrition Science Hall of Fame and in 2019 was named Indiana’s Outstanding Dietitian. Earlier in her career, she received the Academy’s RYDY Award, and Purdue Alumni’s Outstanding Young Professional Award.
