"The research community has to wake up – and speak up about our research so it doesn’t get misinterpreted. Better that the scientist communicates about their own research than the many other unqualified people who will – if they don’t." – Dr. Taylor Wallace
Industry funded research is often criticized for being biased. However, bias in research can occur in many forms, and misinterpretation and misrepresentation can arise from many different sources. Evaluating research must include an assessment of not only signs of bias, but also the strengths and limitations of the research study, and communicating research must be done with ethics and evidence-based information that is compelling enough to compete with those unqualified voices we often hear in the media and social media.
Tune into my latest Sound Bites Podcast episode to hear a lively discussion about industry funded research, science communications and also Dr. Wallace's frequent appearances on the Dr. Oz show!
