Podcast Episode 116: DNA & Your Weight – Courtney McCormick

Mar 20, 2019

Everyone is different, therefore different approaches to weight management, or an overall healthy lifestyle, are to be expected.”

Nutrigenomics & The Nutrisystem DNA Body Blueprint

Nutrigenomics is a science studying the relationships between the human genome, nutrition and health – or how genes and diet interact to influence the way nutrients cause an individual’s body to function. According to research, the human body contains about 20,000 – 25,000 genes. Genes are regions of DNA that act as instructions for telling our bodies how to function. Our genetic makeup influences how each individual uniquely responds to nutrients, exercise and weight loss.

The Nutrisystem DNA Body Blueprint is a simple, effective and secure at-home DNA test. This genetic-based product uses a proprietary algorithm that provides an integrated personal action plan for your body focused on eating behaviors, nutrition and metabolism. The DNA test is supported by science and comprehensively developed to help weight loss and weight management.

It is important to understand what health and weight loss plans work best for you. Genetic testing can be used to recommend different strategies that may help you make more informed choices and achieve outcomes that contribute to overall health.

Discover what tools in the “weight management toolbox” will keep you motivated to adopt healthier behaviors and set one or two manageable goals to work towards. Those small steps will add up over time.”

Really enjoyed listening to this episode! I feel like this is the future of nutrition and weight loss counseling. Thank you for being transparent about the interpretation of the results. I’d love to try out a test for myself! My mom who has always struggled with the inability to lose weight would also benefit.

    Hi Melissa,
Thank you so much for this amazing podcast! I have been enjoying your show since my dietetic internship days, 2 years ago! I am now an RDN working in School Food Service. I have learned something from every episode that I have listened too. This one on Nutrigenomics has been my favorite by far. It is so fascinating and useful for people who have been struggling with their weight. How can someone have the DNA Body Blueprint done for themselves?

Well, you’ve done it again! Brought some cutting edge science to me. As a registered dietitian I remind people that nutrition is a science. That means it evolves and changes as new research is conducted, This podcast is a perfect example. The more we learn about DNA, and specifically, our own DNA, the more we will be able to apply that to nutrition recommendations. Thanks, Melissa and Courtney! Clearly NutrtiSystem is more than a meal!

Thank you very much for sharing! I have a feeling that science has barely touched the surface on the information that DNA testing can provide. In listening to the podcast, I found it very interesting how closely your results resembled things that you already knew about yourself. Very interesting indeed!
